We want to share an important update impacting all sellers of dietary supplements on Amazon.
What’s Changing:
Amazon has expanded its compliance requirements for dietary supplements sold on its marketplace. Effective now, all dietary supplement products must demonstrate current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) compliance verified by an accredited third-party Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) organization. This is an expansion of previous testing requirements that had initially applied only to certain high-risk categories (e.g., sexual enhancement, weight management, sports nutrition).
Key Requirements:
- Sellers must provide evidence of third-party cGMP compliance for each supplement product.
- Verification must be conducted by an Amazon-accepted TIC partner (e.g., NSF, USP, Eurofins, UL, etc.).
- Once contacted by Amazon, sellers typically have 90 days to initiate documentation requests with a TIC provider.
- In some cases, if Amazon already has verified cGMP compliance on record (e.g., via third-party systems/databases), additional outreach may not be required.
Optional Fast-Track Compliance Program:
Amazon is also rolling out a Compliance Fast-Track option for certain dietary supplements. Under this program, if your products are certified through participating partners (e.g., BSCG, Clean Label Project, GRMA, Informed, NSF, USP), Amazon may automatically validate compliance status—potentially streamlining documentation submission.
What This Means for Sellers:
- Action Required: If you sell dietary supplements on Amazon, confirm that your products have up-to-date third-party cGMP verification or prepare to obtain it, and be ready to share documentation.
- Risk of Non-Compliance: Listings that are not confirmed as compliant may be at risk of removal or delisting until proper third-party cGMP verification is provided.
How EAS Can Help:
To ensure efficiency and compliance with Amazon requirements, it is best to be fully prepared for a third-party cGMP audit. Poor performance on a GMP certification audit can cause extensive delays in obtaining certification. EAS is available to conduct gap assessments to the requirements in the dietary supplement cGMP’s and assist in any remediation activities necessary prior to scheduling the third-party certification audit. Please contact us today to schedule your GMP gap assessment and engage us as your consulting partner.
