EAS is pleased to announce that Independent Advisor for Food Law and Regulation, Steve Armstrong, is the winner of the 2018 Food Drug Law Institute’s Service to FDLI Award. Mr. Armstrong, the former Chief Law Council for the Campbell Soup Company, joined EAS as an Independent Advisor in 2016 and has been instrumental in assisting clients with the technical challenges of FSMA, product development and use of claims such as GMO, “healthy” and others. He was presented this award at the FDLI Annual Conference on May 4th by FDLI President and CEO Amy Comstock.
Prior to consulting, Steve’s distinguished career as a regulatory lawyer extended through several global consumer products companies and spanned the globe. He is an advocate for transparency, promoting consumer trust and ensuring food safety, and both speaks and writes extensively on the subjects for associations such as FDLI, industry publications and as a Georgetown University law professor. He has a gift with conveying not just what the laws surrounding food are but why they are important as well as the role they play in building a safe and responsible food supply. Steve’s important work demonstrates the value of building consumer trust, directly impacting not only our foods of today but how food industry law will be shaped and interpreted for tomorrow.
Other notable contributions include FDLI At-Large Member of the Board of Directors from 2014-2017 and a current member of the food and dietary supplement planning committee. Steve received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his law degree from Columbia School of Law, where he has returned as a guest lecturer, in addition to serving as a guest lecturer at the University of Maryland School of Public Health.
Steve takes great pride in his continued efforts to help the industry understand FSMA regulation and implementation as well as how product claims can be legally and ethically marketed. He is a great asset to the industry at large and is a worthy recipient of the Service to FDLI award. EAS is honored to have Steve as part of the team and wishes him a hearty and well-deserved congratulations.
